Me and my Mini Morris - the adventures 1.

For me, the Mini is a real dream car! And since I have one myself (well, almost because I am just leasing it) I can say no more, but if only all my dreams came true so quickly! Love at first sight, an accident while driving for the first time, and the first refuelling of the car pushed out to the edge of Váci Street. That’s how I could summarize and describe the essence of my special relationship with my Mini, which, after all, cannot be characterized in any of its aspects as everyday. Since both of us are special cases in our own way, nothing is going just like that, just as in case of others. How could it be so, since the Mini is a lifestyle! The lifestyle of coolness, youth, personality, uniqueness and of everything else that someone can personally add to it and in my case there is no shortage of it. Apart from my English flag rearview mirror I have gained a reputation due to my dynamic reversing, sudden brakings, my zigzag "road alignment", and of course my flagrant parking style. Depending on who is good at what...
I know, I know the Mini itself attracts the eye, even if you do not play tricks, but to tell the truth, most of the time that’s how it goes, there is no specific intent behind these queer manoeuvres. That’s how it is, the female driver is such a special breed, indeed. The embodiment of the sophisticated, careful, cautious, gentle, kindly waving (I saw the parking space first), charmingly smiling (please let me in), fallible tendencies. One cannot be angry with her, or if they can it cannot last long – to take offence to a weak Woman?!?! The "Mini" Women have become so rare that you burst out in rejoice, if you happen to see one. The scene speaks for itself, and talking will not cease for a long time about how it goes around - at least until the caused damage is repaired and everyone calms down ...
But it’s not a problem at all because as I personally see it, life is worth nothing without excitement, variety, surprising turns, and special meetings.
Those who hold similar views join me and I promise they won’t be bored, just hang on and fasten your seatbelts...

When All Seems Lost — and Even When It Doesn’t…

When All Seems Lost — and Even When It Doesn’t… As a writer, I read more than average. Not necessarily books that fall within my immediate interests, but rather those I can learn from, marvel at, analyze word by word, and sometimes even those that demand more effort from me than usual. That is how it is with Alice Munro. I bought my first book by her when she received the Nobel Prize. Then life happened, and the volume sat on my bookshelf—either I had no time for it, or it lingered somewhere at the bottom of my list of priorities. When I finally picked it up, I could hardly believe my eyes—or my reaction. First, I was utterly outraged; my blood pressure shot through the roof in an instant, and I almost started swearing in disbelief. I had barely skimmed the first few lines, yet that was enough to know: it was perfect. A true masterpiece. Excellence among the excellent. Every word reached the deepest layers of my soul. I was touched by its purity, its delicacy, the noblest simpli...

Evening thought

Now and then journalists in search of copy ask me what is the most thrilling moment of my life. If I were not ashamed to, I might answer that it is the moment when I began to read Goethe’s Faust. I have never quite lost this feeling, and even now the first pages of a book sometimes send the blood racing through my veins. To me reading is a rest as to other people conversation or a game of cards. It is more than that; it is a necessity, and if I am deprived of it for a little while I find myself as irritable as the addict deprived of his drug. I would sooner read a time-table or a catalogue than nothing at all. That is putting it too low. I have spent many delightful hours poring over the price-list of the Army and Navy Stores, the lists of second-hand took-sellers and the A.B.C. All these are redolent of romance. They are much more entertaining than half the novels that are written. /W.S.Maugham/
